CNN reporter Larry Madowo was hit by a fragment of a tear gas canister while reporting on Nane Nane protests in Nairobi CBD.
Madowo was reporting on the scene when the fragment of tear gas canister hit him near his face, luckily the journalist was wearing a helmet.
Madowo confronted the police officers and accused them of aiming the canister at him.
“Ah that was aimed directly at me. He’s aiming directly at me. He’s aiming directly at me,”
“He’s shooting directly at me. Why are you shooting at me? Why are you shooting at me? Why are you shooting at me?”
“Kenyan police targeted me directly today. I was hit by a fragment after officers aimed at me and my CNN team at least twice while covering protests in Nairobi.” Madowo said.
CNN anchor Jim Acosta talked to Madowo after the incident, reassuring the audience first that he was ok after the incident before playing the video footage.
In July, K24 reporter Catherine Wanjeri was shot in the leg and badly injured.
Wanjeri was covering the anti-government protests in Nakuru when she was allegedly shot by the police.
The Media Max journalist was at Nakuru CBD on duty with other journalists who also sustained injuries.
She was shot while standing outside a bank’s premises, with the bullet hitting her on the thigh.
In a video of the incident, two journalists can be spotted lying on the ground crying for assistance.
