The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) published the official list of Sacco societies licensed to operate in Kenya for the year 2025, in line with the Sacco Societies Act and relevant regulations.

According to the announcement, 178 deposit-taking Sacco societies have been duly licensed under Regulation 8 of the Sacco Societies (Deposit-Taking Sacco Business) Regulations, 2010.

These Saccos are authorized to carry out deposit-taking business in Kenya for the period from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.

Similarly, 177 non-deposit-taking Sacco societies have been authorized under Regulation 6 of the Sacco Societies (Non-Deposit-Taking Business) Regulations, 2020.

These Saccos are permitted to undertake specified non-deposit-taking Sacco business in the country for the same period.

However, SASRA also announced that two non-deposit-taking Sacco societies failed to renew their authorization certificates before the December 31, 2024, deadline.

As a result, their authorization has automatically expired and been revoked under Regulation 10 of the Sacco Societies (Non-Deposit-Taking Business) Regulations, 2020.

Consequently, these Saccos are prohibited from conducting any form of regulated Sacco business in Kenya effective January 1, 2025.
