A Magistrate has been shot and seriously injured at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi.

Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti of court number 9 was shot by a senior police officer after she sentenced his wife according to sources.

The shooting occurred during a live court session.

The Magistrate was rushed to hospital for treatment.

According to Citizen Digital, the police officer was killed by fellow officers after shooting the Magistrate.

Police revealed that the senior officer was an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) in Kisumu.

The officer had travelled to Nairobi to attend to a case where his wife was a suspect and wanted to be released pending a hearing and determination of the case.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said the court was sitting in a tent outside the main court halls.

After the ruling, the police officer went behind the tent and shot Magistrate Monica Kivuti.

“Other officers who were present responded and shot the officer fatally wounding him,” Bungei said.

Police also confirmed that another civilian was injured during the shooting and rushed to hospital.

Detectives have launched an investigation into the incident.

Recently, Ruth Nyambura Mbagara, the mother of Ian Njoroge the man in the viral video assaulting a traffic police officer broke her silence.

The mother defended her son’s actions saying the police officer demanded KSh 10,000 bribe from him.

She said he was rushing home to return her car and take his siblings to church as he has always done as a firstborn son.
