Siaya county prides itself with Maranda High School. Even with the many challenges the school faces-like shortage of water-the school has produced straight A students in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). The national school in Siaya county emerged the best school in Kenya when KCSE examination were announced in 2012, beating the well-known names like Alliance High school.
The school image suffered a major blow when its KCSE results were cancelled in 2014 over irregularities in computer studies examinations. Knec chief executive officer Paul Wasanga said of the decision to cancel the results:
“Maranda High School was not ranked because 23 candidates in the school were involved in collusion in the computer studies examination”
This hiccup has not stopped Maranda from being a top performer. This is possible through the leadership of the school’s board of management members.
Principal Of Maranda High
The current Principal of Maranda High school is Edwin Namachanja. Before taking over the running of the institution Mr Namachanja was the principal of Friends School Kamusinga. Under his tutelage, the school has posted good results.

School Fire
A dormitory housing 200 students at Maranda High School went up in flames on June 7 in a trend that is fast spreading in many institutions across the country. In 2020, five students were arrested in the same institution on suspicion of hatching a plan to torch Gor Mahia dormitory. In 2012, Maranda was closed indefinitely and students sent home after two successive fire tragedies that razed down dormitories.
