Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has been appointed by President William Ruto to act as Cabinet secretary for all ministries.

The announcement of Mudavadi as Acting CS in all the vacant ministries was made in a Gazette Notice by Ruto.

“That under Article 152 (5) (a) of the Constitution, Hon. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H., is assigned as the Acting Cabinet Secretary in all vacant ministerial portfolios,” reads the gazette notice dated July 12, 2024.

In the gazette notice, the president also formally communicated the dissolution of the cabinet indicating that all the 21 posts and that of the Attorney General are now officially vacant.

William Ruto on July 11, announced the dismissal of all his Cabinet Secretaries except the Deputy President and Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Ruto said upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of his Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, he had to make a decision.

“I have, powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” Ruto announced at State House.

The President said he would immediately engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations, to set up a broad-based government.
