Naeem Samnakay: Decorated Career of Paediatric Surgeon Who Topped Both KCPE and KCSE in the 1980s

In 1989, Naeem Samnakay, the then student at the Alliance High School emerged the best Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) candidate in the country.

He was a familiar face as four years earlier, he had made headlines after emerging as the top candidate in the Kenya Certificate of Primary School Education (KCPE).

Moving forward, Samnakay disappeared from the limelight and it later emerged that be us a top doctor at St John of God Subiaco and Murdoch Hospitals in Australia.

According to the hospital’s website, he is a paediatric surgeon who treats patients at St John of God Subiaco and Murdoch Hospitals.

Samnakay has specialized in paediatric surgery with clinical interests in gastrointestinal surgery, head and neck tumours, hepatobiliary surgery and hernia.

He also has interests in hypsospadias, neonatal surgery, paediatric gastrointestinal surgery and paediatric urology.

Samnakay graduated from the University of Western Australia (UWA) with a Masters in Medical Science and Honours in Medical School.

Additionally, he obtained his Fellowship in Paediatric Urology at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, London.

Other than offering medical services, Samnakay has also actively involved in teaching, supervising and mentoring trainee surgeons and medical students.

He serves as the Clinical Associate Professor for the Division of Surgery, Medical School, UWA, and is also an examiner for the Royal Australian College of Surgeons.

Samnakay is also an active member of the Australia and New Zealand Association of Paediatric Surgeons, European Society of Paediatric Urology and the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand.
