Nelson Munene Kimathi, who died after being shot multiple times in Denver, Colorado, was a former student at Nkubu High School in Meru County.

According to Munene’s uncle Mwarimu Mawira, the young man had relocated to the United States of America after sitting his Form Four exams.

Mawira said Munene’s death was a big shock to him and the family.

“Fare thee well my boy. Nelson Munene Kimathi called me uncle. He was the son of my brother Mwite P. K. Kimathi. He was under my close mentorship when he joined Nkubu High School before he relocated to the States after form 4,”

“I’m just lost for words to express my deep shock. I don’t know what to say to my big brother as this tragic incident sinks in. All I can say is God knows why. You’ve gone too soon son. Till we meet again.” Mawira said.

Munene is reported to have been killed by a homeowner in Denver, Colorado after entering the house late at night.

“A startled resident shot and killed a man who was intruding in their apartment early Sunday morning,” according to the Denver Police Department.

An initial call of a shooting came in around 1 a.m., according to a police department spokesperson.

Police officials said a surprised resident shot the intruder inside their home.

Munene was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened on July 21.

A post on GoGoFundMen by Munene’s family hopes to raise $30,000 to cater for funeral expenses.
