Popular comedy TV series, Njoro Wa Uba, was recently feted at the 9th edition of the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
In the event that was held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, the program won the award for the Best Original Comedy Series.
Reacting to the win, Njoro Wa Uba lead actor Joe Kinyua took to his social media platforms to appreciate fans for voting for the program.
“Waking up to some awesome news! Asanteni sana for the votes and a big congratulations to the entire Njoro Wa Uba team and Moonbeam Productions,” he wrote.
Phil It Productions also scooped two awards; Best Movie East Africa and Best Indigenous Language Movie (Swahili) for their movie, Click Click Bang.

Kinyua plays Njoro on Njoro Wa Uba which airs on Maisha Magic Plus and Maisha Magic East.
After losing his job in a banking scandal, he takes up a taxi driving business to provide for his daughter and to manage his growing legal fees.
In the show, he paints a portrait of Nairobi and sees the lie that his life reflected in its inhabitants.
The show is created by Moonbeam Productions, a video production company specializing in the production of broadcast quality video content.
After completing his studies, Kinyua got a job at the Aga Khan University Hospital where he worked for four years.
He pursued acting in 2008 fully, and attended different auditions, looking for acting gigs that would elevate his acting career.
Kinyua got a role in a travelling theatre group that allowed him to leave his acting job and follow his dream of being an actor.

Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is an annual accolade presented by MultiChoice recognizing outstanding achievement in television and film.
The inaugural Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards ceremony was held in Lagos, Lagos State in Nigeria on 9 March 2013, and was broadcast live in more than 50 countries.
