Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow will lead Kenya’s security peace keeping mission in Haiti. The decorated police boss will be aided by two other senior ranking officers within the Kenya National Police Service.

He became the first Kenya Police Service officer to head Administrative Police in 2018.

The Deputy IG also spent five years first in a UN Mission in Sierra Leone and Bosnia.

Haiti Mission

DIG Noor Gabow will lead the multi-national police team in Haiti. He will co-ordinate tactical response and overall leadership of the troops.

He will retain his position as DIG, and still have offices in Port Au Prince and Washington, D.C. This will enable him travel between both locations to coordinate police work.

Some of the benefits Gabow will receive for leading the mission include a free ticket to and from Haiti and a visit back to Kenya every six months.

He will also receive a package that includes paid travel and accommodation, along with a monthly allowance of about Ksh1.5 million.

Gabow will lead the Haiti peace-keeping mission alongside General Service Unit (GSU) head of operations Samuel Chebet and Administration Police (AP) head of Operations Geoffrey Otunge

Otunge holds the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG) and is the director of operations at the AP headquarters in Jogoo House.

Chebet holds the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP) and is the director of operations at the GSU headquarters.

Interim Inspector General

In 2022, Noor Gabow served as acting Inspector General of Police from August to November when the former IG Hillary Mutyambai left for sick leave and appointed him to hold forth until his return.

During his short tenure, Gabow reshuffled the DCI in a bid to streamline the services at the Directorate.

Mutyambai later resigned and President William Ruto nominated IG Japhet Koome, then commandant at the National Police Training College, Kiganjo, to the position.

Other notable duties

In the aftermath of the 2022 general elections, Noor Gabow was key in restoring order during the chaos that erupted at the Bomas of Kenya auditorium during the announcement of the presidential election.
