It takes an exceptional work for a six weeks old song to hit over a million views on YouTube. Yet the song Ameniweka Huru Kweli that was uploaded on 25th May 2023 has already surpassed the million mark.
The infectious hit is still trending on social media as it penetrates into the hearts of gospel music fans. And it has received thousands of thumbs up due to its theme of salvation.
It resonates with the Biblical message of John 14:6; that speaks of Jesus being the way, the truth and the life and that no one goes to the Father except through Jesus.
In this article, WoK writes on the incredible music journey of a Rwandese couple: Papi Clever and Dorcas Ingabire.
Papi Clever brief biography
Papi Clever Tuyizere is a man who has been nurtured in an environment of piety. From a tender age, he joined primary and secondary school choirs.
In 2016, he participated in a music competition dubbed Zion Temple Church Talent where his music career received a profound kickstart.
The good tidings saw his two songs get a free production in a state of the art studio.
Education
Papi Clever studied music at Kigali Music School and would later be employed to teach at the institution.
But his point of view was that music alone wouldn’t be reliable career. OThis influenced him to matriculate at Rwanda Polytechnic for an IT course.
“For me, it’s a poor mindset to think that the ministry alone can cater for your daily needs.”
“We do not minister to get money; it is the great commission we got from Christ. So, I wanted to minister while doing a job on the side,” he told New Times Rwanda.
Meeting Dorcas and starting a family
They say a good choice for wife is one whose vision and principles align with a man; and Papi Clever struck gold when he met Dorcas Ingabire.
Dorcas had also grown up as a choir member. The duo got married in 2019 and collaborated in shaping their music career.
They are currently blessed with two children.
Online Worship Sessions
Papi and Dorcas started their Youtube channel before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic which led to restrictions of movement.
But every dark cloud has a silver lining and while churches were locked, they took the opportunity to conduct online worship sessions.
This propelled their Youtube channel as their subscriptions took a transcendent rise.
Hosting their first concert
After restrictions were lessened, the duo had already conquered the gospel industry in Rwanda. In 2022, they were invited to perform at the Overflow Africa Worship Conference.
In January 2023, they hosted their first concert in Kigali. It was dubbed Yavuze Yego meaning which means He said yes.
Coming to Kenya
The couple alongside their pianist Mercil performed in Kenya in June after being invited by Pastor Ben Kiengei of JCM church.
