Philip Dyk is the founder of the US-based infrastructure company Everstrong Capital , the lead sponsor of the Kshs 464 billion Usahihi Expressway Project.
The project involves constructing a 440-kilometer highway connecting Nairobi and Mombasa, two of Kenya’s largest cities.
Everstrong Capital, in partnership with CPF Capital & Advisory Limited, has officially signed a project agreement to raise Ksh 129 billion for the construction of the Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway, one of Africa’s largest infrastructure loans.
The firm under the leadership of Dyk supports development on the African continent to deliver critical infrastructure in the energy & power, transportation, communication, water, healthcare and housing sectors.
With over 30 years of infrastructure experience, Philip Dyk has co-founded investment firms, managed multi-billion-dollar portfolios, and served on boards across utilities, transportation, and environmental sectors.
Education
Philip Dyk earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree in Philosophy and Religion from Claremont McKenna College between 1975 and 1979, laying the foundation for his critical thinking and leadership skills that he applies in his day-to-day operations.
Career
Dyk has an extensive three-decade career in infrastructure, but he began in the finance sector as the Head of Project Finance at Union Bank in California, US, a role he held from 1982 to 1989.
After seven years in banking, he shifted his focus to investment, serving as President of Ahlstrom Capital from 1988 to 1996.
Dyk then became Managing Director of the Atlantis Water Fund at Global Environment Fund from 1998 to 1999, where he oversaw investments in sustainable water projects and environmental initiatives.
From 2000 to 2005, Philip Dyk was the Managing Director of Pacific Capital Resources LLC, where he led investment strategies and managed capital resources for various projects across multiple sectors.
He was a Regional Vice President of Foster Wheeler Capital & Finance Corporation, where he oversaw regional investment strategies and project financing initiatives.
In 2005, Philip co-founded Alinda Capital Partners LLC, a leading global infrastructure investment firm. He had a decade-long tenure, where he played key roles including establishing its portfolio management function, served on investment committees, and held board roles in various utility companies.
Philip Dyk co-founded Everstrong Capital in June 2015 and has served as Managing Director since its inception. With offices in the US, Kenya, and South Africa, he has led the firm in driving infrastructure investments across Africa, emphasizing sustainable development and transformative projects in energy, transportation, and other key sectors.
Since January 2023, Philip Dyk has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the USAHIHI Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway under Everstrong. At the helm of leadership of the primary backing firm, he oversees the development of the 440-kilometer expressway connecting Nairobi and Mombasa through a public-private partnership(PPP).
With extensive expertise in project finance, business development, and private equity, his role involves leading stakeholder negotiations, securing project funding, and managing a team to realize Everstrong Capital’s strategic vision for the modern expressway.
Everstrong’s new partnership with CPF Capital & Advisory Limited to raise Kshs 129 billion will be backed by key industry organizations, including the Fund Managers Association, Kenya Association of Stockbrokers, Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Kenya Bankers Association (KBA), and the Association of Kenyan Insurers (AKI).
