Rose Muturi: Illustrious Career Of Award Winning Branch International CEO

Rose Muturi is the current CEO of Branch International East Africa. The award winning executive has worked for some of the largest financial institutions in the country. She is well versed in digital financial services and financial technology. The CEO was recognized as top 40 under 40 women in Kenya by Business Daily in 2015, most influential young Kenyan woman 2018 by Advance media and Choiseul 100 African economic leaders of tomorrow by institut choiseul for five consecutive years (2016 to 2020). 

Here is her illustrious career as told by WoK.

Education 

Rose graduated with a diploma in Information Technology from Strathmore and a Bachelor’s degree in statistics and computer science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She also has an executive MBA in Business Administration and Management from Strathmore Business School

Career 

She joined Standard Chartered Bank in 2007 as a business analyst for shared distribution. The following year, she served as the business planning manager for shared distribution, East and Southern and also became the business planing manager for retail banking projects in East Africa.

In these roles, she was in charge of planning and coordination in order to ensure the projects of the department run smoothly among other duties. In 2010, she was made the product manager for retail banking deposits and her duties included: managing more than 10 retail deposit products. Before exiting the bank in July 2013, she had risen to become the manager for priority banking service relationship. 

Rose joined Chase Bank in August 2013 as a product manager. Coming up with and implementing annual product plans, product strategies and marketing plans, and execution of new product development were some of her roles in this capacity. In February 2014, she became the pricing expert and retail banking project management officer lead. 

The professional joined Transunion in 2015 as the director of products and strategy. She rose to become an executive board member and became the acting country manager of the entire organization. 

In February 2017, she joined the digital lender Tala as the country manager for Kenya and a few months later, became the regional manager for the East Africa region. In a past interview with a local daily, she said that she wanted to join Tala because Kenya is the pioneer and largest market for the lender. 

“The opportunity was appealing to me because where Tala is positioned is the future of financial services and I am happy to be a part of this journey,” she said. 

In June 2018, she became the director of Tala, Kenya. 

In January 2019, she founded and until 2020 served as the chairperson of Digital Lenders Association of Kenya (DLAK). 

In June 2019, she joined HF Group as the CDO (Chief Digital Officer). 

After leaving HF Group in August 2021, she joined Branch International East Africa as the General Manager, where she serves to date. She is also a board member at Association of Microfinance Institution Kenya.
