After weeks of scorching heat and dry conditions, relief is on the way as the Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts rainfall in various parts of the country between March 4 and 10, 2025.

According to the latest weather outlook, most regions will continue experiencing sunny, dry, and hot conditions, with daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C in many areas.

However, cooler conditions are expected in Central Kenya and the Rift Valley.

The Met Department has predicted occasional rainfall later in the week, mainly affecting Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Central Kenya (including Nairobi), the Coast, southeastern lowlands, and parts of the northern region.

Nighttime temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in the highlands east of the Rift Valley, parts of the Rift Valley itself, and the Mt. Kilimanjaro region.

The anticipated rains bring hope for farmers and water-stressed communities, but residents are advised to stay updated with further weather advisories.

The transition from dry to wet conditions may also result in sudden changes in weather patterns, requiring preparedness for possible disruptions.

Notably, Kenya experiences two primary rainy seasons that significantly influence its climate and agricultural patterns.

The long rains typically occur from March to May, with rainfall peaking in April across most regions.

These rains are characterized by heavy and prolonged downpours, especially in the highland areas, leading to lush landscapes and replenished water sources.

The short rains take place between October and December, bringing less intense rainfall compared to the long rains.

The short rains are vital for the planting of certain crops and help maintain soil moisture during the hotter months.

The onset and intensity of these rainy seasons can vary annually and regionally.

For instance, the coastal areas often experience a delayed peak in rainfall, with the heaviest precipitation occurring in May.
