Shari Martin, iconic gospel artiste best known for his timeless hit ‘Rafiki pesa’ has died.
Martin died on Friday, August 2, at the age of 54 while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The announcement of his passing was announced by close friend and fellow musician Douglas Jiveti.
“Pioneer Gospel musician Shari Martin has sadly passed on. Such a gifted musician: A creative composer with strong lyrics, and a wonderful voice… Legend! May God rest his soul in eternal peace.” Jiveti said.
According to a family friend who spoke to NTV, Martin was recovering and expecting to be discharged from the hospital when he experienced breathing problems.
“Martin was recovering well and was supposed to be discharged. But he developed breathing difficulties. Unfortunately, he did not make it and passed away on August 2, 2024,”
“We later learned that he had been battling the condition for a while and had not sought any medical attention until it became severe,” the friend was quoted by NTV.
Martin’s other hit songs include Mambo ya Dunia, Tangazo la Ajabu, and Wanadamu ni Waongo, among others.
Meanwhile, gospel legend Jemimah Thiong’o is pleading for support after the death of her husband Francis Thiong’o.
Francis has been ailing for months after having complications from surgery.
He died on Sunday, July 21 and his treatment left a huge bill for the family to clear.
Jemimah is requesting Kenyans to support them to offset the KSh 3 million accumulated hospital bill.
