Engore Eskon: Police Officer Who Took Studies Seriously Gets Promoted From Constable To Inspector Of Police, Now Pursuing A PhD

The inspirational story of Engore Eskon is one that best exemplifies the virtues of education. When he joined the National Police Service and began training at Kiganjo in 2004, he didn’t sit pretty. Instead, he took up opportunities to enrich his knowledge by pursuing academics amidst his busy schedule.

Here is his inspiring story as told by WoK

Engore Eskon Education Background

In 1996, the newly appointed deputy OCS sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams at Kaputir primary school in Kaputir constituency, Turkana South, Kainuk Division. He then attended Gidea Secondary School in Kwanza, Trans Nzoia county. In 2000, he sat for KCSE and scored a C+.

Four years later, he joined the National Police Service. Even with his busy schedule of maintaining law and order, he went on to enroll at Dedan Kimathi University where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Criminology & Security Management at Dedan Kimathi University. Having specialized in Loss Prevention Technology, he graduated with Second Class Honors.

Encouraged by his lecturers, he enrolled for a Master of Science in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

He graduated in 2019 and the following year enrolled for a doctorate degree in the same field at the same university.

Apart from his impressive academic credentials, he also has a certificate in Strategic Management and leadership from the Kenya Institute of Management.

Career

Working as a police constable while simultaneously pursuing his education was not easy. It required a lot of sacrifices and time management skills since he worked for eight hours. In a past interview with WoK, he revealed that instrumental to his success were destiny helpers.

He credited Dr. Musyoki Mutungi and Ferdinand Nabiswa for being amazing mentors and role models who helped him along the way.

With about two decades of experience under his belt, he has served in different positions including as a constable in the Accident Investigation Unit in Kilimani.

In December 2022, he was among those selected by Inspector General Japhet Koome for a cadet inspector promotion course at Kiganjo. Following the completion of the course, he graduated from constable to Inspector of Police.

Promotion

He currently serves as the deputy OCS in Amukura Police Station, Teso Central sub county in police Busia county.
