Susan Nakhumicha has defended her time as Health Cabinet Secretary.
The former CS in a statement, hours after being sacked, said she was proud to have midwifed far-reaching reforms in the health sector.
She also expressed her gratitude to President William Ruto for allowing her to serve as Health Cabinet Secretary.
“I am grateful to H.E. The President for allowing me to lead the rollout of Universal Health Coverage(UHC), which is one of the Government’s flagship programmes. It has been a busy 21 months where we initiated far-reaching reforms in the health sector, both legislatively and policy-wise, to lay a firm foundation for the realisation of UHC,”
“Proud of the Ministry of Health team who midwifed these reforms, development partners and the legislature that passed the bills. Thanks to the Health workers for the support and my heart goes out to Community Health Promoters who made our mantra “Afya Nyumbani”.” Nakhumicha said.
The embattled former CS sent a message to her critics by saying she had learnt more during her time in the government.
“To those I didn’t meet your expectations, I take it that life is a learning experience. Ahsanteni.” She added.
In early July, Nakhumicha faced criticism after claiming that protesters injured during the anti-Finance Bill protests have been treated for free at government hospitals.
Her statement has caused outrage on social media with many accusing her incompetence.
According to human rights activists, they had mobilised funds on several social media platforms.
They raised over KSh 30 million to cater for the funeral and medical expenses of victims.
