Symon Barkachai Keitany is set to become the youngest Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) holder in Baringo Central as he graduates today from Karatina University.
The 36-year-old is one of seven PhD candidates from various disciplines who will receive their degrees from the institution today.
This committed scholar will be awarded a Doctorate after successfully defending his thesis entitled, The Bandit Economy Based on Cattle Rustling: Contribution and Impact of Banditry and Insecurity in Baringo from 1900-2020.
In an interview, Keitany remarked that the issue of cattle rustling has evolved from a cultural practice into a business, resulting in significant hardship for the community.
He urged local leaders to guide residents away from this detrimental practice to enable the region to explore a wider range of more lucrative economic opportunities.
Keitany expressed gratitude to his parents, family, friends, and community for their unwavering support throughout his academic endeavors.
“I am overwhelmed by the kind comments from you. Thank you for thee calls, texts, and conversations,” he wrote on his social media page.
Keitany began his education journey at Chesongo, followed by Salawa boarding and Kaptimbor primary schools.
He later joined Moi High School Kabarak and subsequently Egerton University, where he earned a Master of Arts Degree in History.
