Terry is the first born in a family of three children. She was born in Kaimbu County before her family moved to Nairobi.
Education Background
The A-list radio presenter was a pupil at St. James Academy in Kiambu. For her O-levels she attended Moi Girls, Nairobi before she was transferred to Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls’ High School (Bee gee). In an interview carried on Edaily, Terry recounted how competitive education was at her new institution.
“………Life was quite hard for me in Bee gee because I had come in from Moi Girls, Nairobi where I used to lead in academics. When I hit the ground running in Bee gee, I realised competition was very stiff. In the first exam that I sat, I emerged position 132 out 187 students. I have never seen my dad so happy in his life. He was like: ‘yes, you were not studying’.”
She started her career in radio when she was only 17 years. She was to later join the University of Nairobi, Parklands campus where she studied a bachelor’s course in law. She was classmates with fellow radio personality Kamene Giro. She has revealed in interviews that she passed her exams at the Kenya School of Law but her interest was elsewhere. Her passion for radio pushed her to attain certification in Radio Production from MTA Homeboyz. She says that while in college, she often took time off from studies to spend time learning about the radio industry.
Career Journey
Terry’s career as a radio personality kicked off at Family Media radio as a presenter, before she joined Royal Media Services presenting for Hot 96 FM. Terry has revealed that before she got the role, her applications had been rejected more than five times. She reminds people to be persistent in chasing their dreams and not to give up despite the hurdles on the way. After her time at Royal Media Services, she moved to Classic 105 where she co-hosted the Classic Overdrive with fellow radio personality Mike Mondo. The show is among the most tuned in Kenyan radio. Airing between three and seven o’clock on weekdays, the show plays music and holds light conversations with listeners, most of whom are Nairobi residents heading back to their homes from work and dealing with traffic jams. Terry’s three year illustrious career at Classic 105 FM has come to an end and she is set to begin her work in a new show at the Kenya Television Network (KTN). The show is titled Mega Deals Show set to be aired on Wednesdays at eight o’clock. She gave the news on her social media platforms reminiscing a great time at Classic 105. Apart from radio and television, Terry Muikamba works as a freelance video blogger.
Personal Life
Terry Muikamba is an aunt and often tells of her love for her nephew. She is in a relationship, and reserves their identity. She has spoken in interviews of societal pressures to join motherhood and calls it off saying people should do things their way.
