While previously working as a deputy principal at Isena Mixed Secondary, his commendable job prompted the community to construct a girls’ only mission school which was founded in 2004. Nyang’acha saw the new school grow from an enrollment of less than 8 to over 200 within seven years. During his tenure, Isena Mission Girls Secondary School rose from rickety church structures to great infrastructural development.
His role in uplifting the education of the girl child could not be ignored. He was instrumental in reducing teenage pregnancy and at one time helped the police to arrest a culprit who was predating on a school girl.
Factors Behind Success
Nyang’acha had a short stint at Sameta High School before he joined Ugenya High School. Under the motto ‘diligence to excel‘, he has ensured that students donning the maroon sweaters are self-disciplined. As such, the principal has been keen in eliminating the drug abuse menace at the school. Students who have been previously nabbed with bhang had to be discontinued.
Ugenya High School also focuses on timely completion of the syllabi to ensure ample time in revising. This has worked greatly in uplifting the academic standards. Even during the COVID pandemic, teachers worked in organizing online classes which saw the academic standards rise to unprecedented levels.
But perhaps the biggest breakthrough was the school’s benchmarking program that saw learners and teachers visit both Kapsabet Boys High School and Maranda High School to pick unique lessons from the undisputed top guns.
“We managed to visit Maranda High School and Kapsabet Boys and we learnt for one week what they were doing differently that made them excel,” Nyang’acha revealed to Nation.
