President William Ruto has commissioned the upgraded Keroka Level IV Hospital, refurbished and equipped by the Ministry of Defence – Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

The scope of work for the project aimed to upgrade the facility to a Level IV hospital.

This was by constructing an ultramodern three-story building.

This building includes an outpatient department, an accident and emergency section, two operating theatres, and separate theatre female surgical and medical wards.

Additionally, a two-story building housing the administration block and a mother-and-child unit.

Other works included the construction of a modern morgue and an incinerator.

Defence Principal Secretary Dr Patrick Mariru, who was in the company of other military officials, showcased the work done and the equipment installed at the hospital.

This is in line with the mandate of the Kenya Defence Forces under Article 241 (3) (b) of the Constitution, which obligates the military to assist and cooperate with other authorities.

According to KDF, they will continue to participate in national development in an efficient, effective, and adhering to prudent use of public resources.

The facility is among a variety of other hospital projects the military is undertaking across the country in line with the government’s agenda of attaining Universal Health Coverage.

Following the tour of the facility, Ruto directed the Ministry of Defence to construct a perimeter wall around the Keroka health facility.

He also urged the County Government to provide a fully equipped ambulance to enhance the hospital’s emergency response capabilities.

The event was attended by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, PS State Department for Medical Services, Kimtai, Governors Amos Nyaribo (Nyamira), and Simba Arati (Kisii), along with other senior government officials.
