Adams’ career began modestly but grew into a groundbreaking force in gospel music.
After graduating from Texas Southern University with a degree in broadcasting, she initially worked as a schoolteacher and part-time model in Houston.
However, her passion for music soon took center stage. In the mid-1970s, she joined the Southeast Inspirational Choir, affiliated with the Church of God in Christ, where her powerful voice caught the attention of gospel producer Thomas Whitfield.
This led to her first recording contract with Sound of Gospel Records, resulting in her debut album, Just As I Am, released in 1987.
