Divorce

Josephine and governor Alfred Mutua’s relationship came to an end in 2015. Many believed that Lilian Ng’ang’a and Alfred had an affair which subsequently led to the divorce. Josephine also accused the governor of brutality and publicly humiliating her, allegations the governor denied.

Her sentiments would later be echoed in Kenya’s number one female detective’s, Jane Mugo, public post. In the lengthily post, Jane implied that the divorce between Mutua and his second wife was karma for what they did to Josephine.

Jane revealed that she was the one who rescued Josephine, her children and the house manager after they had been locked in their Westland’s home by the governor. This was meant to prevent Josephine from leaving for Australia with the kids. However, the detective intervened and Josephine left for Australia the same day. At the airport, she said Josephine cried saying ndunia ni hapa.

In 2015, they were in court fighting over the custody of their three children and their home in Westlands.

In a statement recorded by the police, she said Mutua had not lived in the house since 2012 and has surrendered it to her.

It was reported that in the divorce, Mutua lost property in Machakos, Kitui and Makueni including prime plots in Mavoko town and their home in Westlands.
