Top Kenyan Celebrities Joining Politics In 2022

Young people form the bulk of Kenya’s population although they have no much say in how the country is being run. A section of A list Celebrities are now keen on changing this narrative by plunging in the murky world of politics. They have decided to use their influence and large following to try their luck in politics. Some of these celebrities are seen as worthy contenders while others are viewed as jokers. Here is a list of Kenyan celebrities who will be vying for various political seats in 2022.

Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o

Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o is a Breakfast show Radio Presenter at KISS FM. He is also an actor, brand ambassador, youtuber and events MC. He was famously known for his role as Jalang’o on Papa Shirandula – a program that aired on Citizen TV. The 38 year old will be vying for the Langata constituency parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket. On July 15, he was handed an ODM life membership certificate as he prepares to take on City Lawyer Silas Jakakimba in the party’s primary elections. It will be interesting to see if he will dislodge the current MP Nixon Korir.  

Jacque Maribe 

Jacque Maribe is a former Citizen TV news anchor. She will also be joining politics come 2022 under a United Democratic Alliance ticket – a party associated with Deputy president William Ruto. Jacque will be running for the women’s representative seat in her home county of Murang’a. She is expected to face tough competition from the incumbent Sabina Wanjiru Chege among other candidates.

Alex Mwakideu

Alex Mwakideu is a breakfast show host at Milele FM –under Mediamax Limited, a media company owned by the family of President Uhuru Kenyatta. He broke the news to the public during an interview with a local publication on October 5th 2021.

“Let me correct you, I’m not running for the MP seat, I am becoming Wundanyi MP in 2022. The Radio presenter stated affirmatively.”

He is a good friend to Jalang’o and he is expected to fly the ODM flag in the coastal based constituency.

Xtian Dela-Aurther Mandela

Xtian Dela is a Kenyan Youtuber, blogger and Influencer. He has over 500,000 followers on instagram, 300,000 followers on twitter and over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. In 2014, he won the best personal blog in the African Bloggers Awards and the most influential twitter personality in the Kenyan Social Media Awards.

The blogger will be vying for Westlands MP in the coming elections and will be facing a tough opposition from the ex- Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi.

MC Jessy

Jasper Muthomi better known as MC Jessy is a Kenyan comedian, MC and content creator. The Churchill show comedian announced in early November that he will be vying for the South Imenti parliamentary seat come 2022. His political ambitions received a boost after he was endorsed and received blessings from the elders of his community.

“I was grateful and humbled by the elders that raised me and who are from my home constituency of south Imenti when they honored and bestowed on me the blessings and responsibilities to lead them as their Member of Parliament,” the comedian said in an Instagram post.

Rufftone

Gospel musician Roy Smith Mwatia famously known as Rufftone is one of the latest celebrities to announce their political bid. The ‘Mungu Baba’ hit-maker announced in mid-November that he would be vying for the Nairobi senatorial seat. The singer made the big announcement during an interview with Comedian and TV Host Daniel Ndambuki (Churchill) in the Churchill show journey series.

“You are looking at the new incoming Nairobi senator, Mr. Roy Smith Mwatia. I will be vying in 2022,” the singer affirmatively said.

He is expected to face fierce competition from ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna among other candidates.

 Jamal Gaddafi

Former radio presenter Jamal Gaddafi is among the six aspirants who have already declared interest in the Malindi parliamentary seat. The position is currently held by Aisha Jumwa who is expected to contest the Kilifi gubernatorial seat come 2022. Gaddafi rose to fame after winning KTN’s reality show ‘The Presenter’ in 2015. He is a very close friend to ODM deputy party leader and Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho alias 001. He recently announced that he will be vying using the ODM ticket.

“I know ODM is a democratic party and we want free and fair nominations. If that is done then I’ll definitely give my opponents a run for their money,” Gaddafi said.
