Most women consider long hair to be more feminine and beautiful. However, research has shown that women with short hair are more self assured, empowered and symbolise power. A number of prominent women in the country prefer short hair and it looks completely amazing on them.

Sabina Chege 

Sabina Chege is a nominated member of parliament. She first came into the limelight after being casted in one of Kenya’s first soap opera, Tausi. She later worked as a radio presenter at Coro FM and later in management at Kameme FM and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. She was first elected to the National Assembly in 2013 and re-elected in 2017. 

At the age of 50, she rocks her chick short hairstyles and doesn’t look a day past 30.

Margaret Kenyatta 

Margaret Kenyatta is the immediate former first lady. While her husband former president Uhuru Kenyatta was always in the limelight, she mostly remained in the shadows. As the first lady, she was credited for her campaign towards improved maternity care in Kenya and reduced child maternal mortality rate. She has also been at the forefront in encouraging people to fight cancer by early screening for breast, cervical and prostrate cancer. In 2014, she was named Kenya person of the year. 

Many know the ex-first lady for her signature short grey hair and elegant fashion style.

Wahu Kagwi 

Wahu Kagwi is one of the most influential musicians in the country. Born in 1980, she ventured into the music industry in 2000 when she released her first single Niangalie. Her major hit Sitishiki was released in 2005. Since then, she has released a number of hits and won several awards including Best Kenyan Female Artiste, Favorite Female Artiste and Best Reggae song. 

The singer has also worked with dozens of popular musicians in the country. She is known for her chick short hairstyles and her ageless beauty.

Patricia Kihoro

A singer, content creator, brand ambassador and actress, she became a familiar face to many after taking part in Tusker Project Fame, a Kenyan music reality TV show. She has featured in a number of local productions including Miss Nobody, Changes, Demigods, Mali, Homecoming, Rush, Disconnect, Makutano Junction and Rafiki. Patricia has been an inspiration to many and she attracts a huge following on both Instagram and YouTube.

Ajuma Nasenyana is a famous model who has worked with some of the top agencies including Victoria’s Secret and Carlos Mienes. Growing up in Turkana, she did not imagine she would achieve worldwide success. In her early years, she was a promising athlete who trained and competed in a number of races. She then got into modeling and in 2003 was crowned Miss Tourism for Nairobi county. She has modeled in some of the biggest stages in the world rocking her short hair as she carried herself with poise and confidence. The supermodel also runs a foundation that helps children in the village gain access to school materials. 

Joy Kendi

Joy Kendi is a YouTuber, fashion and lifestyle blogger. She was interested in fashion from a young age and she took up styling right after college. Her channel boasts more than 60,000 subscribers and she is known for also sharing travel content. Joy can most times be spotted with short hair that is dyed blonde. 

Rachel Ruto 

Rachel is the wife of president William Ruto and the first lady of Kenya. Born in 1968, she pursued a Bachelor of Education degree at Kenyatta University. It was while at the university that she met and fell in love with her husband. The prayer warrior is known for passion in empowering women.

She was awarded the International Honorary Fellowship Award on Women Empowerment at the Binary University in Malaysia.

Wambui Collymore is the director and co-founder of Art Space. Her marriage to the late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore thrust her into the limelight. Bob Collymore passed aware on 1st July 2019. She shaved her hair and wore it short on 2nd July 2019 while attending her husband’s cremation ceremony. 

Akothee 

Akothee has been christened the president of single mothers. The popular singer and song writer’s journey to success has been a source of inspiration to many. The founder of Akothee Safaris began her musical journey in 2008. She has since grown in fame and most know her to be a no nonsense woman who never minces her words. The mother of five is known for always keeping it natural with both her hair and fresh face. 

Rue Baby (Dion Okello)

Rue Baby is the daughter of Akothee. She is also a model and in 2017, she beat other models to get crowned the face of Nivea. She also took part in Miss Universe Kenya competition where she was among the finalists.
