Deloitte East Africa appointed Ann Muraya as its new Chief Executive Officer, making her the first woman to hold such a post in the auditing and consulting firm. She takes over from Joe Eshun who has been promoted to Deloitte Africa Managing Director for businesses based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She will be in charge of operations in a number of East African countries including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and Somali.
“I am excited about working with our teams to serve our clients and continue to contribute to the growth in the profession and the whole reporting ecosystem,” she said of her appointment.

The outgoing East Africa MD expressed confidence in Ann’s ability to drive the auditing and consulting firm forward.
Ann Muraya has a wealth of experience as an audit partner in charge of several companies in Kenya. She has performed quality control reviews for banking and other clients in Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia and Rwanda.
Prior to being appointed CEO, she was the Regional Professional Practice Director for East Africa where she left the team that deals with technical consultations on IFRS and was actively involved in delivering training on the implementation of the requirements of international standards on Auditing and International Financial Reporting Standard in both international and on seminars and workshops organized by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants Kenya (ICPAK).

Education and Committee Memberships
She holds a Bachelor of Education (Science) degree – Mathematics and Chemistry from Kenyatta University. Anne is a Certified Public Accountant, and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Rwanda (ICPAR), a member of Institute of Certified Public Accountant Kenya (ICPAK). She is also a committee member for ICPAK’s Professional Standard Committee and a panelist in the Financial Reporting Award of Excellence (FiRe), an annual program carried out by ICPAK in collaboration with Kenya Capital Markets Authority and Nairobi Securities Exchange to reward excellence in financial reporting.
Ann Muraya has also been an assessor in the Leadership and Development Assessment Center . Senior managers pass through this assessment to determine their potential to make partners and the Manager Assessment Center whose goal is to prepare managers for leadership.
Career
She started working as an auditor at Deloitte. She rose through the ranks to partner in 2008 and 2017 was East Africa Audit leader. In 2021, she made another stride by becoming Africa Managing partner for Responsible business and Public Policy.
