Learning Institutions Kenyan Influential Bloggers Attended

The digital space in Kenya is dominated by a few influential individuals who serve the social media users with trending news on politics, business and human interest stories. These bloggers enjoy a huge following and have been used to drive certain political messaging through their blogs or their various social media platforms mainly on twitter and Facebook. Most Kenyans have always wondered what kind of schools these guys attended or if at all they are even educated. 

Worry no more because in this article, WoK highlights the learning institutions attended by Kenyan top bloggers.

Robert Alai

When you mention the word ‘blogger’ the first name that quickly comes at the top of your mind is Robert Alai. He owns techmtaa.com which brought him to the limelight. He currently runs a popular news website known as kahawatungu.com. Alai was born on 11th November 1979 in the interior villages of Nyando constituency in the Nyanza region. He attended Boya primary school before proceeding to Onjiko Boys High School and Lela secondary school where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. After completing his high school he joined the Kenya School of Monetary Studies where he pursued a diploma in Information Management. He was to later join the United States International University (USIU) where he pursued a Bachelors of Science degree in Applied Computer Technology.

Dennis Itumbi

Dennis Itumbi is a popular blogger who currently works as the digital strategist in charge of elections campaigns in the Deputy President’s William Ruto team. He is well known for his role in the campaign of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in the 2013 and 2017 general elections that saw the duo emerge victorious. He is an alumnus of Meru School where he did his secondary education before proceeding to pursue a diploma in journalism at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication. He later joined Moi University where he did his undergraduate degree in Mass communication. He is currently studying a Master of Arts in New Media, Governance and Democracy at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.

Lord Abraham Mutai

Abraham Mutai is a controversial political blogger with over 500,000 followers on twitter and over 250,000 on Facebook. He runs a current affairs blog by the name ‘kenyan-herald.com’, a relatively popular news outlet. The controversial blogger attended Pwani University for a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Accounting) between 2010-2014 and later on Kenyatta University for a Master’s degree in the same field. He is also the founder of Kings Nanak Consolidated limited – a digital communications consultancy firm.

Cyprian Nyakundi

Cyprian Nyakundi is a controversial blogger who has interests in politics, governance, corporate-fraud and human-interest stories. Nyakundi was born in 1991 in Kisii County where he spent the better part of his childhood and teenage life. He attended St Mary’s Yala high school where he did his secondary education before joining Meru University of Science and Technology to pursue Actuarial Science. While at the university, he exposed the university in the social media saying that it lacked facilities, had outdated material in the library and that it was basically a failure. This led him to get expelled in 2013 on grounds termed as tarnishing the university’s name online. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Onward Africa and runs a blogging site under the name cnyakundi.com

Pauline Njoroge

Pauline Njoroge is a Digital media strategist, a lover of politics and a passionate Pan-Africanist. She runs a personal blog by the name paulinenjoroge.com where she publishes opinion articles about politics, law and governance. Pauline attended Moi Girls Kamangu for her secondary education before joining the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) and Mount Kenya University (MKU) for her undergraduate course. She later joined the prestigious university of Nairobi where she pursued her Masters in International Studies (Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies). She is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta and doesn’t shy away from criticizing the ‘Tangatanga’ led brigade online. She is quite popular on twitter with over 120,000 followers and over 210,000 followers on Facebook. She currently works as a communication officer for NEPAD/APRM Kenya secretariat.

Wahome Thuku

Wahome Thuku is a controversial and famous blogger who mainly focuses on writing political and governance articles on his Facebook page that has over 145,000 followers. He attended both the prestigious university of Nairobi and Kenyatta University where he pursued a law course. He later joined the Kenya School of Law where he finalized his legal education. He is currently an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, blogger, political analyst, writer and teacher.

Soyinka Lempaa

Soyinka Lempaa famously known as ‘Le general’ is a Kenyan lawyer, writer and blogger. He mainly writes political and law related articles in his Facebook wall that has close to 30,000 followers. Lempaa studied Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication at the prestigious University of Nairobi before joining Kenyatta University in 1994 for his undergraduate degree. He then studied International Human Rights Law at University of Essex before joining the University of London in 2005 for his masters. He is a former fellow at Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program.
