Was Nike just about to slash their sponsorship deal with Tiger Woods before the historic win? KORE chief marketing officer Russell Scibetti was of that view if the athlete had not won his fifth Green Jacket. This may have been a speculation but what sports pundits have unanimously agreed is that Nike will up his deal. Scibetti told the Daily Telegraph that the superstar may secure a deal of upto US$200 million spread over six years with Nike.

What Winning the Masters Means For Tiger Woods
The golfer walked home with US$2 million following his win at the Masters. This win comes with more goodies in form of new lucrative sponsorship deals.

In a post-match interview the golfer who has undergone four operations on his back told reporters of his win:

“I was very lucky to be given another chance to do something that I love to do”

“I had serious doubts after what transpired a couple of years ago.

“I couldn’t lay down, I couldn’t do much of anything. I had the procedure which gave me a chance of having a normal life.

Amount Woods Has Earned Since Turning Pro
Tiger Woods turned pro in 1996. According to Forbes, the athlete has earned $1.5 billion since turning pro with most of earnings (put at 90%) coming from endorsements. The pro golfer was the highest paid athlete for a decade when he was at his peak. During this period he went on to win 14 major championships.

His sponsors include:
Nike, TaylorMade, Bridgestone, Monster Energy, Hero MotoCorp and Kowa.

Nike was obviously impressed with the win and standing with him during the messy divorce with his wife in 2009. An ad by Nike reads: “It’s crazy to think a 43-year-old who has experienced every high and every low and has just won his 15th major …. is chasing the same dream as a 3-year-old..”

Sponsors Who Abandoned Tiger Woods
The sex scandal that saw Elin Nordegren walk out of her five-year marriage with Woods dealt a financial blow to the athlete. AT&T, Accenture, Gillette, Gatorade ended their relationship with the five-time Green Jacket winner. Before the lid was opened on his extra-marital affairs, Wood made upto $105 in endorsements and appearance fees in 2009. In 2017, the athlete earnings had dropped to $37 million.
