Gor Mahia, fondly referred to as K’ogalo (house of Kogalo) by its legion of fans, is the most successful club in Kenya. The club has dominated the local premier league with a record 17 wins, four more than their arch-rivals AFC Leopards. Further to being the only football club from Kenya to have won Africa Winners’ Cup in 1987, K’ogalo boasts of winning FKF President’s Cup 10 consecutive times among other accolades.
Gor was formally inaugurated on 17th February, 1968. The team’s initially consisted of players from Luo Sports Club and those of Luo Union after they merged. In the same year, true to their calling, Gor Mahia triumphed in the national league for the very first time. And here is the icing on the cake; K’ogalo is the only team to have played a club from the English Premier League in Kenya. In 2017, Gor played an Everton team that had the likes of Wayne Rooney in Tanzania. Although K’ogalo was downed 2-1, the lads gave a good account of themselves.

The team was expectedly bundled out of the CAF Confederation Cup after players were treated to shambolic preparations hours to the crucial game against RS Berkane. Gor Players Salaries
Due to its unwavering legion of fans, Gor Mahia has over the years been able to remain afloat financially. It continues to win one trophy after another and with such a feat, its players are expected to be comfortably compensated.
Some of the highest paid players include:
Francis Kahata: Kahata’s net salary amounts to about Ksh130,000. His superb run has earned him lots of respect and dependability from the club. He also plays for the Harambee Stars.
Jacques Tuyisenge: Jacques is a Rwandese import. He’s paid more that Ksh100,000 in monthly salary.
Denis Oliech: Oliech is currently engaged to Gor on one year’s contract. He pockets Sh350,000 in monthly salary thus crowning him top most paid player in Kenya’s Premier League.
Others: Other players in Gor’s hierarchy are paid between Sh50,000 and Sh100,000 monthly.
Allowances: Each player receives Sh10,000 as a winning bonus.
