Government facilities are not the very best when in comes to offering medical services. Those who can afford, or atleast have a medical cover, opt to seek medical services at private health care facilities. While not all private hospitals have a good reputation, Komarock Modern Healthcare has largely received rave reviews.

Komarock Modern Healthcare
Komarock Modern Healthcare is a fully fledged private hospital established in 2004 as a small outpatient clinic. The hospital has since grown from attending 10 patients in a day to over 200 patients a day as of 2022. The hospital currently has a 150 bed capacity in the male and female ward, paediatric ward, new born unit, Maternity, HDU and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The hospital majorly specialises in obstetrics and gynaecology but they also provide all the other special attendances such as ophthalmology, dermatology, Paediatric, general surgeon, neurosurgeon, orthopaedics surgeon, ENT, Urology and Nutrition.
Komarock Modern Healthcare Owners
Komarock Modern Healthcare was founded by Dr. Salesio Kamwara Nyamu famously known as Dr. S K Nyamu and his wife Harriet Nyamu. Dr. S K Nyamu is a gynaecologist who serves as the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) while his wife as the Managing Director (MD).

Establishing the hospital.
During a past event to launch an oxygen plant in the hospital, Dr. SK Nyamu narrated how he established the hospital while doing his internship.
“When I was doing my internship in Kenyatta hospital, I met one of my lecturers who told me that his friend runs a pharmacy in Komarock and is looking for a doctor who can do prescriptions. I went there and met the late Dr. Ngoshi who had a pharmacy called Destiny. He gave me a dispensing room where I would pay 100 shillings every day,” he said of journey to starting his own facility.
I would leave my internship at Kenyatta hospital at 5.00pm then head over to see patients at Komarock up to 9.00pm. But then it reached a point where the pharmacy couldn’t be closed since I was seeing patients up to 3.00am. Dr Ngoshi then requested me to get a space somewhere else hence the birth of Komarock Modern Hospital,” He added.

He continued to narrate how the hospital had six beds only. Due to the increase in number of patients, he acquired a building from his friend who was moving from Komarock to South B. With the help of a bank loan, he was able to buy the building at Ksh3.9 million and repaid the loan within one year. He launched the hospital which was a major success and two years later, he acquired land in Utawala where he constructed another branch.
Services and Branches
The hospital provides quality and competent medical services for both in-patient and outpatient. Some of the services offered in the outpatient clinic include; accident and emergency services, surgical doctors consultation, X-rays, CT scans, MRI and Ultrasounds including obstetric, specialists services, laboratory services and pharmacy services among many others. The inpatient side comprises various units such as Isolation unit, orthopaedic unit, paediatric unit, surgical unit, medical unit, operation theatre, obstetrics operating room and a fully-fledged maternity wing. Some of the services offered at the hospital such as Dialysis sessions can be covered by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).
The hospital currently has four branches; two in Nairobi – Utawala and Komarock while the other two in the Mount Kenya region – Tharaka and Chuka. The four clinics are open from Monday to Saturday from 8.00am to 6.00pm.
