The Best Medical Schools In Kenya And Their Performance Index

Mt Kenya University has the best medical school in Kenya, a report released by the East African Community partner states national medical and dental practitioners boards has revealed. The body, chaired by Dr Nyemazi Alex, a member of the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council, also recommended the closure of Uzima University College medical school.

Here are the medical schools and their performance index;

Mt Kenya University: 82 per cent 

Maseno University: 81 per cent 

Kisii University: 80 per cent 

University of Nairobi (dental): 68 per cent 

JKUAT: 66 per cent

Kenya Methodist: 59 per cent

UoN (Medicine): 58 per cent

Egerton: 54 per cent

Kenyatta University: 54 per cent

Masinde Muliro: 53 percent

Moi (medicine):  61 percent 

Moi (dental): 54 percent 

Uzima University: 49 percent 

About Mt Kenya University 

MKU Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) programme was granted provisional accreditation by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board in May, 2014. The institution has state-of-the-art science laboratories, a modern  anatomy laboratory /funeral home at the Thika Level 5 Hospital. In addition it is in collaboration with Machakos Level 5 Hospital and other strategic partners.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have met the following minimum University entry requirements.

  1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) holders with C+ (plus) Mean grade WITH an average of B plain in each of the following cluster subjects
  2. i) Biology ii) Chemistry iii) Physics or Mathematics iv) English or Kiswahili
  3. Kenya advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) holders
  • A minimum of two principal passes in Biology, Chemistry and
  • Subsidiary pass in either Mathematics or Physics
  1. International Baccalaureate (IB), a minimum of grade 5 or above
  2. Diploma holders in Medical Sciences, a minimum ‘O’ level Division II pass in K.A.C.E or C+ (plus) mean grade WITH credit C+ in the requisite cluster subjects in KCSE, In addition to a 3-year diploma WITH a minimum of a credit pass from a Board-recognized medical training institution
  3. Proficiency in English language.
  4. Degree-holders in Biological Sciences or equivalent qualifications from a recognized university subject to passing of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  5. Other qualifications deemed to be equivalent to those in paragraphs (1)-(4) above will be subject to Senate’s

approval.

Feed and Duration

Ksh. 450, 000 per Year (Ksh. 150, 000 per Trimester).

Trimester system to last for a period of 6 Calendar years. Study duration not to exceed 12 Calendar years
