Nabilai Kibunguchy: Kenyan Defender Who Has Ownership In A Scottish Football Club

Nabilai Kibunguchy, a Kenyan footballer who has majorly resided in the USA has invested the dollars he has earned into ownership of a Scottish Club Caledonian Braves FC.

Though the monetary value of the deal remains undisclosed, the towering central defender expressed optimism about the club ascending to the top-tier league.

“I hope the club can grow and make it to the top division, and I can’t wait to be a part of this club as an investor and a fan,” he said.

According to Kibunguchy, the Caledonian Braves is a club with an outstanding vision and he took delight in becoming a co-owner of the side.

“I am happy and blessed to become a part owner of The Braves FC. They currently play in the 5th division in the Scottish Football League System! They have a great vision, and I hope to see continued growth on and off the field in the near future,” he said.

Nabilai Kibunguchy background and education 

Nabi Kibunguchy is a son of Herbert Kibunguchy, a retired engineer who worked for the California Department of Transportation.

His father worked for 29 years and settled in Kenya in 2013. The family hails from Webuye, Bungoma County.

Nabi was born in January, 1998 in the USA. However, his parents ensured that he would travel to Kenya at least once in two years.

Nabi studied Managerial Economics at the University of California where his soccer skills were also sharpened. Due to his athletic physique and impressive skills, he got to study his final year under a scholarship programme.

Football Career

Nabi played for University of California Davis (UC Davis) from 2016 until 2019 where he received numerous accolades.

He earned the All-Big West Conference First Team, Big West All-Freshman Team, Big West Conference All-Academic Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region honours.

He also featured for the USA U-19 team.

In 2019, he played for the San Francisco Glens plying the USL League Two. Two years later, Nabi signed for Minnesota United and became the 18th overall pick in the MLS Superdraft.

He went on a loan spell to Sacramento Republic and signed for his current club Orlando City B this year.

Harambee Stars dream

In August 2023, Nabi expressed his desire to feature for Harambee Stars despite never receiving a call up to the national side.

“I will play for my national team one day: speaking it into existence,” he said.
