Holy Television: List Of TV Stations Owned By Wealthy Churches In Kenya

Television has been a powerful medium for communication, offering a platform to reach millions of viewers across the globe.

Amidst the diverse program offerings, some religious organizations in Kenya have taken the opportunity to own and operate TV stations, spreading their messages to both faithful followers and curious viewers.

In this article, WoK delves into the fascinating world of TV stations owned by churches in Kenya.

Sasa TV

The TV station is owned by the Nairobi-based Neno Evangelist Centre, which was established in 1992.

It was founded and is owned by Apostle James Nganga. 

In 2021, the TV had been banned by the Communications Authority of Kenya for airing inappropriate content. 

According to Standard, the station was only allowed to operate after the staff underwent mandatory training on appropriate operations of the Profanity Delay Mechanism system, management of live broadcasts, broadcasting legal framework, consumer protection, and complaints handling. 

Apostle Nga’ng’a also owns other multi-million properties and businesses. 

Nuru TV

This TV station is owned by Nairobi-based Maximum Miracle Center, a church that was established in 1990 by Bishop Pius Muiru alongside his wife, Rev. Lucy Muiru. 

The church, which hosts miracle services, is located in Nairobi City Center along Latema Road off Tom Mboya Street.  

Muiru is known for his affluent lifestyle and extensive property holdings, which include a village mansion in Kigumo and a fleet of expensive fuel guzzlers.

He also owns Nuru Radio, which originated from the popular radio program “Kuna Nuru Gizani”.

Deliverance TV

The station is owned by Around the Globe Church (ATG), based in the Nairobi CBD. 

The church, which also owns ATG radio, was founded by evangelist Francis Musili.

It has branches all over Kenya and in the Eastern African region,

Their mission is “Plundering Hell and Setting Captives Free”.

Aside from being an evangelist, Musili has written several books including Acts of Apostle Musili, The Power and Mystery of the Anointing Oil, and Breaking Curses and Administering Blessings

MBCI TV

This is a Swahili channel based in Nakuru. It is owned by Apostle John Kimani William of Kingdom Seekers Fellowship. 

Willie C. Kimani serves as the Station Manager, bringing experience in media production and strategic planning.

MBCI TV covers Nakuru County and its environs with 24-hour free-to-air broadcasting accessible through universal set-top boxes in Kenya. 

MBCI radio was started in 2014 while the tv was started in 2015. 

Kirk TV

Kirk TV is a Kenyan Christian Television Station established to enrich the viewers holistically by addressing personal, family, church as well as national issues. 

The station is based on Biblical foundations with the close partnership and oversight of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA).

The station delivers a well-balanced mix of faith-based entertainment, lifestyle, and sports, ensuring that a wider audience is reached. 

The station’s current CEO is Dr. Njoki Chege, a renowned journalist who returned to media after a four-year hiatus, taking on the role of CEO in September 2023.

Aviation TV

The station is owned by Jesus Teaching Ministries (JTM), which was founded by renowned preacher and televangelist, Peter Manyuru. 

The Church is located at Kahawa House on Haile Selassie Avenue. 

Apostle Manyuru recently garnered attention for a prayer session where congregants experienced what was described as a demonstration of God’s miraculous power, with members falling as he fervently prayed for them.

He is also the chairperson of Nairobi Aviation College. 

Hope FM

Hope FM and Hope TV are owed by Christ is The Answer Ministries (CITAM).

Established in 1959, CITAM was originally known as the Pentecostal Evangelistic Centre (PEC).

The church has branches across the country, with significant contributions from Citam Valley Road, Citam Woodley, Citam head office, and Citam Thika Road. 

The church owns multi-million properties and businesses, including at least ten primary schools and is the owner of Pan Africa Christian University (PACU).

In 2021, CITAM raised Sh1.6 billion from tithe, ranking among the wealthiest churches in the country.
