Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has claimed the viral death certificate bearing his name and image is fake.

Sonko in a post on X, said the claims of having faked his death to escape prison were a smudge crusade against him.

He said the claims were spread when he won the Makadara Parliamentary seat.

“When you destroy someone’s life with lies, take it as a loan, and it will come back to you with interest. Politics is indeed a dirty game,”

“Faking a death certificate while I am still alive!! All these were mere propaganda, smear campaigns, and diversionary tactics aimed at tarnishing my reputation,”

“These tactics began immediately after I won the Makadara by-election in 2011, to trigger another by-election,” Sonko said.

Sonko narrated that throughout the years, he has been addressing these allegations in various interviews, including the recent one with Oga Obinna.

“Unfortunately, my detractors have not relented. Even the allegations of selling Panadol, albino body parts, exporting private parts abroad, and the escape from Shimo La Tewa Prison were baseless,”

Sonko said he was taken to Kibra Court and all accusations were proven to be mere propaganda.

“The only evidence presented in the escape case was successfully appealed in the High Court’s Misc. Appeal case number 80 of 2001, leading to my release from prison “by the law, unless otherwise lawfully held for some other reasons,”

“We can not continue to recycle the same propaganda for over 15 years. It has taken me decades to be where I am today, and I will deal mercilessly with anyone trying to use any method (propaganda or malice) to tarnish my name,” he added.

The former governor said those still plotting against him to apply a new approach as he was prepared to defend himself.
