Faith Odhiambo: Meet the Firebrand Lawyer at the Helm of LSK

Faith Odhiambo is the President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

She was elected to spearhead the organization, taking over from Eric Theuri who was at the helm of LSK for two years – from 2022 to 2024.

Odhiambo’s tenure will end in 2026.

She was also instrumental during the 2024 Finance Bill protests, and was in the forefront to secure the release of protestors illegally detained by the police.

But who is Odhiambo? Here is her profile as compiled by WoK.

Odhiambo holds an LLB (Hons) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

Additionally, she holds an LLM (Hons) in International Commercial Law with European Law from the University of Kent (UK).

Odhiambo is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators-UK (MCIarb), and is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS).

She is a PhD student at the University of Nairobi where her research is focused on issues to do with competition law, consumer protection law, telecommunications law, banking law, financial services, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.

“When considering my PhD subject, I saw it crucial to identify a way to consolidate these three areas of law, which in my view form a huge opportunity that has not been effectively exploited in the Kenyan Market

“My PhD is therefore on Competition in the Mobile Financial Services Sector. Previously, I have contributed to a lot of work in the development of legal framework on mobile money and advancement of competition law in Kenya,” she said in a apadt interview.

Additionally, Odhiambo is a multi-lingual having studied French, Arabic and Italian.

She also serves as board secretary of the Federation of Women Lawyers-Kenya (FIDA-Kenya), and is a partner at Ombok and Owuor LLP Advocates and a consulting partner at MMA Advocates and the UoN.

At FIDA-Kenya, Odhiambo demonstrated leadership and a strong commitment to advocacy.

Her role put her in the forefront of advocating for women’s and children’s rights, demonstrating her commitment to social justice and equality.

Odhiambo also served as a lecturer at the School of Law at the University of Nairobi.

Her teaching portfolio includes Law of Business Associations, Banking Law, Competition Law and Consumer Protection Law.

Odhiambo made history as the second female to head the society.

Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo was the first female president having served between 2001 and 2003.
