Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga has been criticised for urging the youth to dialogue with the government.
The former Prime Minister was speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), where he and other opposition politicians witnessed the assent of the IEBC Bill 2024 into law.
Odinga, said the opposition agreed to dialogue with President William Ruto’s government.
This follows weeks of Gen Z-driven protests across the country and has led to death of over 20 protesters and hundreds others injured.
“The best way forward out of the crisis we are having today as a country,” Raila said.
His statement at KICC led to outrage with many accusing him of becoming a sellout.
Kenyan youth said neither Ruto nor Raila speaks for them.
The declared they will not be a part of the dialogue being suggested.
Raila, as you go ahead and dialogue, kindly don’t involve us. Discuss your private matters. You don’t speak on our behalf – a youth shared his opinion on X platform.
We told Raila Odinga to rest and let us handle our on matter. We are not going to dialogue with President William Ruto.
As Kenyans we know how it ends and Baba is a clear example how dialogue never works – Another Gen Z shared.
Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua who is an ally Raila Odinga termed the dialogue calls a trap.
“Dialogue can only be meaningful if the players have good faith and are guided by the best interests of the people. “This is a trap period,” Karua said.
