Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has defended opposition leader Raila Odinga after his senior party members were nominated to the Cabinet.
Atwoli hit out at people criticising the former Prime Minister and describing him as a man who cannot betray Kenyans.
Atwoli was speaking in Kisumu on Saturday, July 27.
The COTU boss said the country’s multi-party democracy allows for the opposition to work with the government to deliver its development agenda.
“These people who were saying that Raila is now working in government where were they when he was fighting for multi-party politics? Those are passengers who do not know what it takes to run a country and have stability, Raila will never betray Kenyans.” Atwoli said.
Recently, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna cleared the air after some of their party members got nominated to Cabinet.
Sifuna said ODM has not joined the government as the party structure has yet to approve such a move.
The Senator who was speaking at Citizen TV on the nomination list was an open lie.
“The party has not joined the government, that is an open lie,”
“ODM is a movement of people, the over five million Kenyans who are registered members and there is a way in which organizations such as our party make a decision,” he said.
