The Ministry of Defence has congratulated Soipan Tuya on her appointment as Cabinet Secretary.

MOD has also welcomed her to the ministry as she begins her official duties.

“The Ministry of Defence congratulates and welcomes Hon. Soipan Tuya, EGH, Cabinet Secretary for Defence.” The Ministry said.

Before this role, Tuya served as the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.

In her current role at the Ministry of Defence, Tuya is responsible for the formulation and implementation of Defence policies.

She provides strategic direction to ensure the Ministry effectively operationalizes its mandate.

This includes formulating, presenting, and articulating Cabinet memoranda, sessional papers, and other policy issues emanating from the Ministry.

As the principal advisor to the President on defence matters, she serves as the key link between the Ministry and both the National Assembly and the Senate, providing regular reports and responses on issues of national security and defence.

In addition to her advisory role, Hon. Tuya chairs the Defence Council, the highest organ responsible for managing defence affairs in Kenya.

Tuya will be instrumental in ensuring that the Ministry of Defence adheres to its commitment to national security, operational efficiency, and fiscal responsibility.

Roselinda Soipan Tuya made history in 2022 as the first Maasai woman to be nominated as cabinet secretary in Kenya.

Soipan is the fourth daughter of former Narok South MP Samson Ole Tuya.

Born and bred in Narok, she tendered her father’s livestock alongside her siblings during her formative years.

She considers herself a product of opportunity as her father was the only one among 15 siblings to have acquired an education.

She attended Ololulunga primary school within the Olentutu arid zone of Narok county.

The school was established by the World Bank to support pastoralist communities. Soipan sat for her KCPE at the school and emerged top girl in the Narok district.
