Baltasar Ebang Engonga, a senior official in Equatorial Guinea and a relative of the president, has been fired following the emergence of explicit videos featuring him with several women online.

The director of the National Financial Investigation Agency was filmed with various partners, including the spouses of notable officials, with some incidents taking place in his office at the finance ministry.

The videos surfaced on social media while Ebang Engonga was in custody at Malabo’s Black Beach prison on charges of misappropriating public funds.

In a decree issued on Wednesday evening, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo removed Engonga from his position.

In response to the video’s circulation, authorities directed telecommunications officials, regulators, and mobile service providers to restrict the dissemination of these explicit materials on social media within a 24-hour timeframe.

The incident has transcended this authoritarian West African nation, leading to the creation of musical pieces, dance performances and edited images.
