Angel Reese is a talented American professional basketball player currently playing as a forward for the Chicago Sky in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).
She began her collegiate journey at the University of Maryland but later transferred to Louisiana State University (LSU) after her sophomore year.
Her college career was marked by impressive statistics, including records for double-doubles and rebounds, which ultimately led to her selection as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky.
In her rookie season with the Sky, Reese quickly established herself as a force in the league, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.
Parents
Angel is the daughter of Michael Reese and Angel Webb, both of whom were accomplished basketball players, greatly influencing her athletic journey.
Her mother, Angel Webb, played collegiate basketball at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in the 1980s and 1990s and later had a professional career in Luxembourg.
Webb is remembered for her competitive spirit and contributions to UMBC’s basketball program, where her jersey number was retired in recognition of her impact.
As a single mother, Webb raised Angel and instilled in her the values of independence, resilience, and hard work—qualities that Angel often credits for shaping her success on and off the court.
Michael Reese, Angel’s father, also had a notable basketball career. He played at Boston College and Loyola University Maryland, where he was instrumental in leading Loyola to its first NCAA tournament appearance.
After college, he pursued a professional basketball career overseas in various European leagues.
However, Angel’s relationship with her father has been less prominent due to her parents’ separation when she was young.
Career
Reese began her journey at Saint Frances Academy, where she was recognized as a McDonald’s All-American in 2020 and ranked as the second-best player in her class by ESPN.
She joined the University of Maryland as the highest-ranked recruit in the program’s history, but her freshman season was marred by a fractured foot.
Despite this setback, she bounced back during her sophomore year, averaging 17.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, earning third-team All-American honors and first-team All-Big Ten recognition.
In 2022, Reese transferred to Louisiana State University (LSU), where she made a significant impact.
She led LSU to its first national championship in 2023 and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
During her junior season, she set the NCAA single-season record for double-doubles and broke the SEC single-season record for rebounds.
As a senior, she continued to excel, averaging 18.6 points and 13.4 rebounds per game, and was named SEC Player of the Year while receiving multiple All-American honors.
Reese was selected as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky.
In her rookie season, she made history by setting the league’s single-season record for rebounds and achieving a streak of 15 consecutive double-doubles—both remarkable feats for a rookie.
She was named a WNBA All-Star and earned Rookie of the Month honors during June 2024.
Additionally, Reese contributed to the United States national team by winning a silver medal at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.
