Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ) Philomena Mwilu arrest was seen by a section of Kenyans as a fulfillment of President Uhuru Kenyatta vow to revisit the judiciary after the Supreme Court annulled his win in the last general election.
The DCJ, who was at the centre of the high voltage case, termed her arrest as witch hunt and a ploy to scuttle any chances of her succeeding Chief Justice David Maraga when he retires.

DPP Noordin Haji said at the time of her arrest-she has since been released-that he had enough evidence to charge the DCJ. He said Mwilu had abused her office for personal gain, evaded to pay taxes and accepted money as gift under dubious circumstances.
