The 58th Madaraka Day celebrations came to a close amid pomp and color exhibited at the newly refurbished Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu. President Uhuru Kenyatta and Burundi’s president Evariste Ndayishimiye were among the dignitaries who graced the show. Also present was the deputy president who received a warm welcome.
The man of the moment was however ODM leader Raila Odinga who played host. He accompanied the Head of State in commissioning projects and hosting guests in his lavish address.
The photo above, Raila hosted Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation of the Republic of South Africa, Kanu Secretary General Hon Nick Salat and Hon Paul Otuoma at his home before heading for Madaraka Day Celebrations.
The ‘state house’, as its known by locals, is in Kanyakwar, Riat Hills overlooking Kisumu International Airport. The imposing house is said to have been constructed by the Chinese, who subcontracted to locals.
It has 3 living rooms, 10 bedrooms, four massive kitchens, 2 conference rooms and offices. With a total of 74 rooms, Odinga’s address has an Olympic size swimming pool, Jacuzzis and a helipad for two choppers. It took 9 years to complete construction.
Mama Ida and I hosted Madam Lindwe Sisulu, the Minister for Water and Sanitation from Republic of South Africa at our home in Kisumu. Minister Sisulu will be joining other dignitaries during the Madaraka Day celebrations on Tuesday.
