The current principal of St Peter’s Nyakemincha Mixed Secondary School is Leonard Murungi Meme from Bomet county who took the leadership of the institution from Joseph Arama who retired. The institution had a chequered history of poor performances that has since been overturned by a streak of good performances. Interestingly, Nyakemincha means ‘tail’ or last in Ekegusii. 

Speaking on school turnaround performance

Former Nyakemincha Principal Joseph Arama, who took the running of the institution in May 2012, fixed a school that recorded a mean grade of 2.9 in the previous Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination. He said of the institution turnaround:

“I have brought the school up from where it was flat on the ground, nobody could like to be associated with the school due to its poor performance, it had taken its name which literary means a ‘tail’ ”, the retired Principal told the media.

In 2014, Nyakemincha scored a mean grade of 8.62 with a total of 41 out of the 76 students who sat for the KCSE examination landing spots university spots. The least student scored a C-(minus). 

And the school performance has been on an upward trajectory since then. 

Out of the 340 students who sat for their KCSE in 2020 at the institution, 308 will join public university. The school scored a mean grade of 8.026.

2021 results

Out of the 461 candidates who sat for the 2021 KCSE national exams, 457 met the minimum university entry qualification of Grade C+ and above.
