Together for Better founded was established by Aruna Varsani, an Indian-Kenyan educationalist and innovator.

Varsani has been involved in philanthropic work for the better part of her adult life, with interests in charities, education and community development.

In an exclusive interview with WoK, she noted that she practices philanthropy both in Kenya and India.

“I have been leading the charge for gender equality and social inclusion in Kenya and India and have been recognised as one of the most influential women in Kenya

“Over the past 20 years, I have devoted my life to charities, education, and community development,” Varsani said.

Varsani noted that she started the charity foundation with the aim of providing information about menstrual health management.

She was also seeking to introduce and distribute sustainable, reusable sanitary pads.

“I have started a charity foundation and several initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable community development. My main passion is promoting access to education on menstrual health management for adolescent girls and young women in grassroots communities

“I believe that eco-friendly, reusable, and biodegradable sanitary pads are crucial in addressing period poverty among young girls and women in Kenyan communities,” Varsani said.

Mission

The foundation seeks to reduce period poverty in marginalized communities and empower girls and women through education and providing sustainable sanitary kits.

Varsani said;

“The inspiration behind the foundation stems from the belief that better menstrual health management leads to better opportunities and a better life for girls and women in marginalized communities.”

Since it’s establishment, over 30,000 girls and ladies from marginalized communities have benefited from the foundation.

“We source our sustainable sanitary kits through our cottage industry that manufactures and distributes the kits,” she said.

Other than providing sanitary kits for the less-privileged, Together for Better also offers free menstrual health literacy.

“We are dedicated to not only providing access to essential menstrual hygiene products, but also fostering menstrual health literacy

“Our mission is to empower girls and women to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives through education and awareness,” Varsani said.

At the present moment, Varsani’s foundation works with local and international NGOs and Community Based Organisations.

“People can support our foundation by making a donation, volunteering, or spreading awareness about our mission and goals. Also following us on our social media pages,” she stated.
