Tyler Mbaya is an actor and content creator better known for his role on popular TV drama series, Machachari.

Since his time at the TV show, the actor who is popularly known as Baha has grown to be among one of the most sought after content creators in Kenya.

He is currently involved in production of short films which is aired on his YouTube channel, and he also appears on his girlfriend, Georgina Njenga’s channel.

Here is his story as told by WoK.

Background and Education

Tyler Mbaya Kamau was born in 2000.

He has one brother, Mungai Mbaya who is a rapper and an actor known for his role on Citizen TV kids show, Junction Juniors.

After completion of his primary school education, Tyler joined Nairobi High School in 2013, but he lost his mother forcing him to change schools.

He transferred to Chania Boys’ High School where his elder brother studied before moving to Ufanisi Senior School, where he sat for his KSCE.

“I finished high school-aged 16 last year. This is because I demanded to be taken to school when my brother who is two years older than me started schooling

“I did not want to be let alone.  I was able to act and at the same time continue with my education because I was always allowed to have one weekend off to attend the shoots,” Tyler said.

Tyler scored B+ in his KCSE exams and progressed to pursue journalism and cinematography.

Machachari

Tyler started acting on Machachari while he was six years old.

He played the role Baha, a little boy living in the ghetto with his dad who is a football coach and his mother, a small kiosk owner.

On the show, Tyler had a clique of friends including his ‘brother’ Malik Lemmy alias Govi who have grown to be the best in their crafts.

The show which revolved around the lives of young children and how they relate with day to day life activities was canceled in 2019.

Speaking on the same, Royal Media Services production manager Stanley Ngige said the story of Machachari had ‘come to an end’.

“It didn’t evolve to remain relevant to the target audience, and the best we could do is develop the story to come to an end so that we can start a new show for the same target audience,” Ngige said.

Reacting to the cancellation, Tyler said it wasn’t easy to take the news, however, noting that he was glad he got the opportunity.

Losing both parents

Tyler’s mother was Beth Nyambura, an actress who was popularly known by her screen name on Citizen TV show Mother-in-Law, Wanade.

Wanade died in 2013 after a long battle with cancer, leaving behind a husband, Tyler and his brother.

In a previous interview, Tyler said that he was forced to take up various responsibilities following the demise of his mother.

He was takin care of himself and her brother as his father was unable to secure a job as he was deported from the US.

Their dad died two years after their mother’s death.

Relationship

Tyler is dating Georgina Njenga, a content creator and brand influencer.

The actor unveiled his girlfriend through a social media post in August 2021.

Tyler shared a picture casually kissing his girlfriend on the cheek, and captioned it “You Snooze You Lose.”

The couple welcomed their baby, Astra Nyambura Kamau, on May 8, 2022.

Tyler shared the exciting news via his Instagram page, welcoming his fans to their new life as parents.

“We would love to tell you guys that baby and her Momma are doing great and being taken care of here. It’s a whole rollercoaster of how things happened. Can’t wait to take you guys through the journey,” he wrote on Instagram.

KM Productions

Tyler runs a production company dubbed, Kamau Mbaya Productions.

The first project off the production company was a short film produced by Tyler called My Slay Queen.

“I don’t have a lot of experience in the technical side of the movie as compared to acting. The little I have is through observation while on set

“I don’t believe in waiting for things to happen in life automatically, case in example, being an actor and transitioning into a producer or a director in ten years or so,” Tyler said.
