Online platforms, such as Instagram, Tik Tok, and YouTube have provided visibility to numerous content creators. Bena wa MaLines, real name Bernard Kamulu, is one such creator whose videos on Tik Tok have turned him into a household name in Kenya. He shares comic videos inspired by daily interactions. He boasts of over 7 million views on Tik Tok and 3 million likes.
Here is his story as told by WoK.
Family and Education
He comes from a family of seven children, four girls and three boys. He is the eldest among the boys. The funny man attended Muhoho High School in Gatundu.
Currently, the comedian is a fourth year student pursuing journalism at Mount Kenya University in Thika. His acting side was evident from primary school. He performed a narrative in class 8 inspired by the 2007 tribal clashes and realized that art was his passion. This was way back in 2013 when the elections were around the corner and the narrative was to warn people against any form of violence.
Videos
Bena started sharing content before taking a break then re-emerged stronger. He is known for his signature skinny jeans, vest and colorful funny looking cap. The scope in his videos differs from one to another. Fans especially love videos where he is addressing an ex named Carol as he pleads they get back together. His main aim is to enjoy life, be happy and also make others happy. The work he puts into his videos has also started to pay off as he revealed on Citizen TV that he has begun receiving calls from several potential clients.
Bena Wa Malines also has a YouTube channel and plans to divide his content so as to choose what goes on Tik Tok and on YouTube. In future, he hopes to start doing short clips and films. He loved production and would love to work on it sometime in future.
Some of the people who have inspired him greatly in the world of comic are the late Sir Charlie Chaplin and the late Churchill show comedian AKA.
