Betting firms owned by Kenyans have been spared the ongoing onslaught on the supposedly ‘delinquent’ tax evading foreign owned bookmakers. The Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi signed deportation orders of 17 directors of betting firms who have been operating in Kenya. According to the government, the online betting companies had a cumulative revenue of kes200 billion ($2 billion), up from 2 billion shillings five years earlier.
The Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) did not renew the foreign owned bookmakers and lottery operators licences which leaves the locally owned betting firms to satiate the appetite of 12 million gamblers. Some of these companies are Odi and Betika.

The betting firm is licensed by the BCLB under the Betting, Lotteries and Gaming Act, CAP 131, laws of Kenya. According to revolvy.com, Betika is owned by Shop and Deliver. A check on ecitizen reveals Chris Mwirigi Kaumbuthu as a director and Roamtech Solutions Limited as shareholder and director of Shop and Deliver.
