Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has earned a reputation for adopting children who have lost their parents, offering them a home, education, and support. Here are some of the children he has taken in after their tragic loss.

The philanthropist recently adopted a young boy who witnessed his father’s tragic murder in Mathare Area 4 while on his way to school.
The 32-year-old man was stabbed and killed as he escorted his son to school and then proceed to a construction site where he worked as a mason for a living.
Sonko stated that the boy named James is now a member of his family, emphasizing his commitment to providing for him. He noted that the brutal killing of the child’s father had deeply affected him, prompting his decision to step in and offer support.
“I thank God for blessing me with another son. He will now be part of my family,” Sonko said in a statement, acknowledging the emotional toll the child is experiencing after witnessing his father’s tragic death.
The former county boss pledged to support the boy’s education while also committing to providing a stable and nurturing home to help him rebuild his life.
Sonko also promised to hire a professional therapist to support the boy’s recovery, acknowledging the deep trauma caused by the tragic incident.
“May God comfort and protect him during this difficult period as he mourns his only parent,” Sonko said in a statement.
Gift and Satrin Osinya

In March 2014, Sonko adopted Baby Satrin Osinya and his brother, Gift, after their mum was shot dead by terrorists at Joyland church in Likoni,Mombasa.
At the time, Satrin had a bullet lodged in his skull, and his father could not afford the surgery.
Sonko facilitated the necessary treatment at the Kenyatta Hospital, and since then, Satrin, a teenager and Gift who is in early 20s, continue to live under his care.
Gift is currently a student at Scott’s Christian University while Satrin is in high school.
Janet Kaingi

Sonko also has an adopted daughter, Janet Kaingi, who he took in at the age of 5 after being orphaned from Nzeluni Village in Mwingi, Kitui County.
She is now a university graduate, a milestone that Sonko celebrated, stating that her achievement had made the Mbuvi family very proud.
“You have been part of our family from a tender age. We have seen you achieve milestones from Baraka Primary School Buruburu to Arya girls parklands and today graduating with a Bachelors of Business Logistics and Procurement from Daystar University.”
“We would never be more proud as your parents. Keep making us proud even as you step out into the real world, and always remember you have a family in ours. Congratulations daughter!” he said during her graduation.
