Ciru Muriuki Biography: From Having A Difficult Relationship With Her Mother, Studying At The Prestigious Kianda School, Career And Finding Love

Angela Wanjiru Muriuki, popularly Known as Ciru Muriuki, is a media personality who has worked with both local and international media houses. Her shows mostly touched on lifestyle and entertainment.

She was born on 17, April 1982.

Background

The media personality grew up in Bahati and South B areas with a father who was a civil servant. Together with her sisters, they grew up in a happy home with parents who were in a healthy relationship.

During her teenage years, she had a difficult relationship with her mother and would often find solace in her father. Her father passed away in 2020 owing to Covid-19 complications. 

Education

After graduating from Kianda school, she joined the University of Nairobi to pursue medicine. However, her passion for media was ignited and she switched to journalism. 

Ciru Muriuki Career

Her first stint in the world of media was 2008 when she joined Homeboyz Radio. She honed her skills while serving as a late night presenter and entertainment news reporter. 

With her star rising, she joined Kiss 100 in 2013 and in 2014 joined the Nation Media Group. Working along Anto Neosoul, she continued to cement her presence in the country’s media scenes. When the company axed the duo, she secured employment with Royal Media Services.

In 2017, she joined mediamax and served as a morning news anchor and digital editor. 

In 2018, she joined the international league after securing employment with BBC, where she worked until 2022.

In a past interview with a local media house, she revealed that losing the job wasn’t easy. She had worked there for five years and it came as a shock when they let her and others go in the name of taking a different direction.

She said employment tends to make people comfortable and that after losing the job, she had to make changes in her lifestyle. However, it also opened her eyes to more opportunities.

Later, she launched a podcast called the Undiscovered podcast. Through this, she shared information on art, culture and music.

Relationship

The former BBC presenter got engaged to actor Charles Ouda in 2023. His sudden demise on 3rd February sent shock waves among many as in the days leading up to his death, he was okay. Ciku has also expressed sadness over the passing on of her fiance.
