After a period of making headlines for controversial reasons, celebrated comedian, director, and actor Nathan Muya Kimani, better known as JB Masanduku, is turning a new page. He has set his sights on a transformative path, with plans to become a pastor by the end of the year.

Masanduku has previously shared the challenges he faced during the height of his career, which led to a series of poor decisions and strained family relationships. He has been candid about the turbulence in his marriage to his ex-wife, former radio personality Tina Kagia, shedding light on the difficulties that contributed to their breakup.

In an honest interview with a local newspaper, the comedian shared that the past year was filled with struggles, including depressive episodes that set back his efforts to change. He also revealed that he was admitted to rehab to tackle his alcohol addiction.

“On one hand, I moved forward by starting work on several projects, but on the other hand, I had to face some dark moments.

I fell into depression and ended up in rehab in March or April. Luckily I only stayed for a month and by God’s grace I came out stronger,” he stated.

As part of his journey to turn over a new leaf, Masanduku has quit drinking and is now celebrating four months of sobriety. He has also embraced a new path in theology, with plans to become a pastor.

“The inspiration came from my late father, Masanduku arap Smit (famous for his role in the TV show Vioja Mahakamani). He was a well-known figure who eventually became an evangelist.

Before he passed away, he had established strong links with prominent evangelists such as Teresia Wairimu, Julian Kyula and JB Masinde. I feel a deep sense of responsibility to finish what he started,” he stated.

Masanduku explained that becoming a pastor has always been a dream of his, and he now feels it’s the right time to pursue it. He hopes to be fully trained by the end of the year.

“I started theology classes in November 2024 and am already making good progress.

My aim is to become a pastor by the end of this year. It is a calling that has always been in my heart and I am looking forward to this new chapter,” he shared.
