Apart from being a journalist, he was at one time an aspiring musician and contested in the Tusker Project Fame competition. The article focuses mainly on his career as he is a very private person and has kept a lot of personal information away from the public.

Age

The news presenter was born in 1977.

Career

Debarl joined Nation Media Group where he hosted the AM live. The show airs in the morning and deals with a number of topics from trending news to entertainment. The show also featured mind blowing political debates with the panelists being former or current politicians, from governors, senators to members of parliament.

In July 2020, he was among the journalists who were let go by Nation Media Group in a bid to stay afloat during the harsh economic times. Others who were sacked include: Ken Mijungu, Sharon Baranga, Brenda Wanja , Silas Apollo and Shaban Ulaya among others. As he exited the station, he  thanked the management for giving him the opportunity to work with them.

“It was the season of light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair. Thank you NMG for the opportunity. Work continues apace,” he tweeted after being fired.

After this tweet, a number of people came out to encourage him including Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi.

After being sacked from NTV, Debarl was hired by Mediamax owned station K24. Business Daily reported that he would be hosting the show called Punchline which used to be reported by Ann Kiguta until she resigned in December 2020.

Tusker Project Fame (TPF)

Back in the day, Tusker Project Fame was a must watch among many Kenyans. It kept so many glued to the screens as people chose their favorite stars in the show and prayed they wouldn’t be eliminated. The show aired on Citizen TV and was a massive success. Debarl was also among the people who auditioned to join this music reality show. He auditioned for Tusker Project Fame season 3 which features some amazing talent. Unfortunately, he did not go very far and was eliminated a few weeks into the competition.
